Alan Young (Vice President of Fabrication at Spirit) was our guest speaker last month at our PDM. For those of you who were not able to attend, you missed an excellent meeting. One of the many things that really stood out was Alan’s crediting of getting his CPIM certification in helping him along his career path. Here is a man who was Vice President of Bombardier-Learjet Operations. He also served as the General Manager of Operations for Bombardier. He has numerous other accolades as well.  Please don’t think that getting certified will take you along the same path as Mr. Young. What I will say (according to ASCM research) is that CPIM’s earn an extra 25% as opposed to their non-certified counterparts and that certification increases your odds of getting hired by 65%! We are the premier non-profit organization in the manufacturing industry. The list of companies who support APICS reads like a Who’s Who. Companies like General Electric, Apple, General Motors, Google, the list goes on and on. We are recognized internationally as well- I have met two different instructors who taught in Qatar.

Please Dear Reader, I know that I have used my President’s Letter numerous times before to tout the benefits of getting certified. In large part because I deeply regret that I did not do so much earlier in life.  Rest-assured this is the last time I will bring it up, especially now that my third term as President is coming to an end.

Having said all that- we will be offering classes at Butler County Community College in the spring and you can always take classes online at www.fvtc.edu.

Regards,
Brian Ferris CPIM-F, CSCP, CLTD, C.P.M.
President APICS Wichita
